Dear CODE27 family,

Part of our team is on holiday right now, but we wanted to get this update to you rather than wait.

More shipments from this wave are going out as they clear logistics.

If your shipping address has changed since you backed, please contact service@code27.co as soon as possible so we can make sure your unit reaches you.

Our production timeline targets remain the same as our last announcement: 500 units in March, 1,200 in April, with all Kickstarter fulfillment targeted for mid-2026.

Pink is now estimated for April–May delivery due to the small quantity and focus on ramping production of black and white units. We will let you know if anything changes regarding these timelines.

Setup Experience

Some of you have noticed that during initial setup, there was a bug that could exit into the device's underlying system layer. We're aware of this and are currently investigating.

Please note that interacting with the system layer outside of the CODE27 experience may cause unexpected behavior and interfere with your ability to receive future software updates.

Like most modern consumer electronics, from smart displays to car infotainment systems to gaming consoles, our device runs on a customized embedded operating system as its foundation. What you're seeing when this happens is the base system layer that sits underneath the CODE27 experience. This isn't something you'd encounter during normal use, but we didn't do a good enough job ensuring the setup flow brings you directly into the companion experience without any way to wander into the system underneath.

This is on us. Our team is actively investigating the root cause to ensure we get the right fix out, and we will push a firmware update over the air as soon as it's ready. We want to make sure every user goes from first boot straight into the CODE27 experience without interruption.

Thank you to those of you who flagged this in the community channels. Your feedback directly improves the product for everyone still waiting for their unit.

Voice Quality

We want to address something directly, because some of you have mentioned it and we'd rather you hear it from us.

The voice on shipped units sounds different from what was shown at Wonder Festival and in our influencer demo builds. You're right, and we hear you. The builds shown at Wonder Festival were running newer test software with features, including a more expressive voice engine, that have not yet been stabilized for production deployment. The units shipping now are running our current production software, and the voice does not have the same level of emotional expressiveness. This includes natural laughs, whispers, and tonal reactions that were present in the demo builds.

As many of you know, CODE27 was designed from the start as a customizable platform. Our roadmap has always included the ability for users to configure their own preferred TTS, LLM, ASR, and more. That customization layer is still being developed. When it's ready, you'll be able to connect your own preferred voice providers if you choose to.

In the meantime, we are not waiting around. Improving your Codie's voice is one of our top engineering priorities. Emotional expressiveness, natural reactions, and overall warmth are all areas we're actively working on, and you will hear improvements arrive through software updates. Your feedback on voice quality matters and directly informs these decisions.

Codie Spaces

For those who saw the Wonder Festival demo, you'll have seen a preview of the feature and might have noticed Codie Spaces is not yet in the current software for the CODE27 device. The initial release of Codie Spaces will feature our own 3D environments, with customization opening up in a later update. This is in active development and will be delivered through software updates.

Custom Models & File Format Support

Some of you have noticed that certain VRM files aren't loading on the device. This is due to a file size limitation in the current software that affects larger or more detailed models. A software update to support larger files is on the way. In the meantime, larger VRM files can be transferred via microSD card.

We also know many of you have characters in formats beyond VRM. Right now, the device supports VRM 0.x and 1.x. We've published a written guide and video guide for converting FBX models to VRM, and a similar guide for PMX/PMD conversion is coming soon. We're also developing automatic conversion software to simplify this process. Expanded format support remains on our roadmap, and we'll share more on timing in a future update.

Early Adopter Experience

We know that some of you receiving units right now are finding that the experience does not yet reflect the full vision of what CODE27 will be. Features that were part of the original promise, like deeper customization options, Codie Spaces, and broader file format support, are on our roadmap and will be rolling out through software updates. We hear the feedback and it is directly shaping our update priorities.

If you're an early recipient, please know your feedback is actively shaping the product for the thousands of backers. Every improvement driven by your feedback reaches all units through software updates, so the experience keeps getting better for everyone. We are committed to closing the gap between where the product is today and where it needs to be through consistent software updates over the coming weeks and months.

If you're a VIP Kickstarter backer, your bonuses will be shipped separately. We apologize for the inconvenience and prior miscommunication.

What's Next

Our development team returns from holiday this week. Top priorities upon return:

  • Voice quality improvements, with a focus on expressiveness and natural reactions
  • Resolving issues reported by early recipients
  • Codie Spaces development
  • Continued progress on the C.O.D.I.E. Framework, including long-term memory and customization

If you're experiencing any issues with your unit, please open a ticket in our Discord channel support-ticketat https://discord.gg/CODE27 or email service@code27.co so our team can help you directly. If you've noticed dust particles inside your device, please contact us right away and we will arrange an exchange. Contact us also if you have not received your activation code as a Kickstarter backer which should have been sent by noreply@mail.code27.co or service@code27.co in October. If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our support as well.

Thank you for being part of building this with us.

With sincere gratitude,
The CODE27 Team
